Tasting Notes

The wine has a delicate reddish pink colour reminiscent of dried rose petals. Emanating from the glass are wonderful red fruit flavours with dominant mulberry and ripe strawberry whiffs. On the palate the wine reveals an initial nutty undertone with a perfect balance between fruit, sweetness and acidity. A delicious lifestyle wine packed with loads of ripe raspberry and strawberry aromas and flavours. Elegant and soft with a dry finish.

Blend Information

100% Merlot

In The Vineyard

The wine is made from grapes from a vineyard situated on the higher south westerly facing slopes of Zevenwacht. The decomposed granite soils include desirable clay elements that retain moisture during the drier months of ripening, yet, as a result of prominent gravel fractions, allow for excellent drainage.

About The Harvest

The grapes were picked at a low sugar level for optimal fruit and acidity and to achieve freshness combined with elegant fruit and low alcohol content.

In The Cellar

The grapes were crushed and separated from the skins immediately to prevent too much colour extraction and then fermented like a white wine with no further skin contact. The delicate pink colour is derived from the red pigments that are released during the crushing process. In order to retain the fresh red fruit aromas the wine was fermented at a cold 14° Celsius.
